What are Some Causes of Gray Hair

By Unknown Monday, July 27, 2015

There are a lot of theories floating around that attempt to explain why hair turns gray. People mention stress, genetics, a vitam B-12 deficiency and other random things that they think may cause gray hair. However, there is actually a scientific explanation behind why people go gray as they get older. The answer isn't just melanin and dying pigment cells, which is what scientists have thought in the past. Instead, decreasing amounts of catalase may play a bigger role in gray hair.

Catalase and Gray Hair
New studies have pointed to catalase as a newly discovered factor in why hair grays with age. Catalase is an enzyme that natrually prevents the body's hydrogen peroxide from turning the hair gray. The body naturally produces hydrogen peroxide which literally slowly bleaches the hair from the inside out, turning it gray. However, as people age, their body produces less catalase. This leads to more hydrogen peroxide and more gray hair. Now that researchers understand how catalase affects gray hair, premature gray hair in younger people is easier to explain.

Gray Hair Cure
Now that catalase is more understood, there is an option for curing gray hair other than hair dye. Increasing catalase production would decrease the amount of hydrogen peroxide, and therefore decrease the amount of gray hair. This means that people who have grayed early finally have a way to restore their natural hair color or prevent more gray hairs. This is done by taking Catalase XP, which is a formula that boosts the amount of catalase in your body and helps you to look as young as you feel.
